Open & Affirming

In accordance with our role and mission statement, we believe that Edmonds Christian Church is called to be an inclusive learning community that seeks to journey with others and with God.

We are to be a welcoming community that demonstrates inclusivity and hospitality. That means we are to practice true hospitality and be accepting of people at all points in the journey of faith, especially including the spiritually and socially isolated.

We are to be a giving community whose concerns include social justice, outreach, community service, and the wise management of resources. That means that we are to be a community that is unafraid to identify community needs, to speak for the disenfranchised, and to work in solidarity with the marginalized.

In our vision statement it states that the purpose of the church is to help people to reconnect with God, to remind everyone that God loves us all, and to call us to use our gifts to participate in God’s work in the world.

We are called to be ambassadors for God. We are called to reflect God’s love and invite people to renew their friendship with God.

In response to our calling, we specifically identify ourselves as being "Open & Affirming". The terminology “Open and Affirming” refers specifically to welcoming those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered. As a faith community we seek to grow in proclaiming our openness and identity to the larger community, and we seek to find better ways to serve our local community.
